We’re super happy with the way this covered deck turned out. We used open beams to support the roof, tongue and groove for the ceiling with a translucent stain to showoff the woodgrain and ran the decking on the diagonal to add a little visual interest. It’s a beautiful space for enjoying the backyard.
Maximizing the open feeling of the space was really important and I didn’t want a lot of posts killing the view. To make the spans work, we went with triple 12″ LVL beams and some custom brackets that I got the guys at Petty’s Welding to whip up for us. 6″ x 6″ posts and 4″ x 6″ beams complete the structure.
Some of the extras for this build include can lights in the ceiling, a ceiling fan mounted to the center beam, a switchable outlet for string lights, an outlet with a custom mount for a @sonos speaker and an outlet with a custom mount for an outdoor projector. We also skirted the base and added a 6′ swing door to provide some underdeck storage space.
