We recently wrapped up a fun and pretty complex hardscaping project for a family in West Knoxville. They have a beautiful backyard but had trouble accessing the area due to the slope of the yard and some difficult terrain. The existing concrete steps were way too tall for code and were beginning to crack and deteriorate as well and were making the walk from the driveway to the backdoor difficult. We removed all the existing concrete steps, sidewalk and a rotting wood retaining wall and replaced them with a drystack wall and a new path with stairs running from the driveway to the back of the house and from the back of the house to a detached deck and some walking trails at the back of the property. Grade and elevation changes were a bit of a challenge as we tried to find the right balance between easy to walk without winding the path too far into the yard. The end result is a space that is beautiful, easy to access and secure. The owners will be able to access the back of their house year-round, regardless of weather conditions.
